Mission
A community dedicated to reducing cardiovascular disease and preventing early death due to cholesterol and other risk factors.
Who are we?
We are a patient-led nonprofit umbrella organization of patients, families, health professionals and supporters with a collective vision of eliminating cardiovascular disease. We will do this by taking action against the causes of cardiovascular disease, genetic, environmental, and lifestyle.
What is our focus?
We are taking focus on high cholesterol and other lipids, due to genetic and non-genetic factors, as the leading under-diagnosed and under-treated cause of cardiovascular disease and early death.
What is our goal?
The Canadian Heart Patient Alliance is working toward the day when no Canadian will suffer reduced quality of life, life-altering event, or early death due to high cholesterol and other lipids.
What do we do?
We are an alliance of affected patients and families and supporters. We believe we can have a greater impact by working collaboratively and raising a unified voice to:
- Create greater awareness of high cholesterol and other lipids as a leading “silent” cause of stroke and other cardiovascular events
- Promote screening to diagnose individuals and family members with a genetic inherited tendency to develop high cholesterol, a common but mostly undiagnosed condition known as “familial hypercholesterolemia”
- Reduce stigma associated with high cholesterol to encourage those with genetic and non-genetic high cholesterol to seek diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and support
- Promote education and coaching to help individuals make and keep lifestyle changes to maintain healthy cholesterol levels
- Advocate for patient-centred care, treatment and support for individuals at risk for and living with high cholesterol and other lipid disorders.
